We’ve been doing roofing for more than 30 years, so handling a commercial metal roof project is pretty common for us. Metal roofing is starting to really catch on more and more, but we still find a large number of business owners that have not really considered it as an option for their building. If your building has a sloped roof that will need to be replaced in the near future, there are a variety of reasons that you should consider a commercial metal roof:
- Strength – This is one of the huge benefits of a metal roof, particularly when compared to more traditional roofing materials such as asphalt shingles. In a strong wind – such as the types of winds that we can see here in Florida during hurricane season – a shingle (or group of shingles) can just get torn right off the house. A commercial metal roof is able to withstand those strong winds, and is also extremely resistant to fire. You may even qualify for a reduced rate on your property insurance (check with your agent for details).
- No maintenance required – Most other roof types require you (or someone) to get out on the roof on a regular basis and check it for any structural problems or areas that may need to be repaired. This is not required for a metal roof. Of course, if the roof gets damaged by a falling branch or a hail storm, you will want to check it out. Otherwise, you really don’t need to do anything to maintain it properly.
- Wide variety of colors and styles – This is a surprise to a lot of business owners – most think that a commercial metal roof is available in one style and one or two colors. Not true – we have lots of options to show you in terms of color and various styles. Your metal roof can even look like a shingle roof if you want it to.
- Energy efficiency – Here’s where the commercial metal roof will pay for itself. Rather than soaking up the heat of the Florida summer sun, a metal roof will actually reflect away a large percentage of the sun’s radiant energy. It will also have a venting system built in as part of the design. This means that the interior of your building doesn’t get as hot, so your AC system doesn’t have to work as hard to keep it cool. Over time, this savings in utility expense adds up substantially.
- Durability – A commercial metal roof just lasts a long time. There have actually been cases of the metal roof lasting longer than the building itself. It’s clear where the better value is, when you look at metal lasting perhaps 50 years or more, and asphalt shingles only being good for about 10 to 15 years. You have one roof over that period of time, instead of replacing it 2 or 3 times. The initial cost is usually higher for metal, but over the lifetime it becomes a much better value.
Regardless of your situation, we would love to come out and talk to you about how a commercial metal roof could be of benefit to you. The consultation costs nothing, and you could very well realize a large cost savings over the life of the roof.
